The Great Illawarra Walk
The Great Illawarra Walk began in 2008, born from a casual conversation between Chris Lovatt and Darrel and Cleo Pitt. When asked if he had ever considered walking for charity, Chris shared his idea of trekking from Shellharbour to Sydney. With that, the very first walk was organised in June 2008, where 150 participants completed the 100km journey from Addison Street, Shellharbour to Botany Bay.
Recognising the many worthwhile causes in need of support, The Great Illawarra Walk became a registered charity in 2014. Our Principal, Martin Merritt, has proudly supported the event for over 15 years, assisting with organisation, donating water, providing event t-shirts and helping with water stations along the route.
